Hi there,
My name is Elsjé (Koetsier) Defty. I am the primary music therapist at Helping Notes.
All About Me
I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Music (BMus) at the University of Cape Town. I then went on to complete my Master's Degree in Music Therapy (MMus) at the University of Pretoria. I am a registered music therapist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.

I believe that music, as well as other art forms, can be powerful tools in therapy. This creative approach to therapy allows for a flexible process with a variety of clients. It enables more perspectives in thinking, processing and stimulating what is needed in order to heal and grow.

My personal passion lies in working with individuals who have behavioural, physical, emotional or learning difficulties. Music therapy allows for a more alternative form of therapy for people with various difficulties and caters for clients who are non-verbal. It is able to assist communication, improve social competence, allow for emotional regulation and expression, and enable motor and sensory experiences.

I believe in taking a client-centred approach, placing the client's needs first in all instances. My desire is for my clients to walk away from their therapy sessions having experienced growth and personal development.
